Caucasian shepherd dog club “Bombora” was founded in 1996. In the same year it became a member of Cinological Federation of Georgia (FCG). In 2001 the club was received as a full member in the International Cinological Federation (FCI).
The initiator of the deed and the founder of the club is Mr. Gia Giorgadze. In 2001 he received the international certificate of cinologist-expert.
In the beginning of 1990s the situation of Caucasian shepherd dogs was very hard in Georgia. Their number was only several tens because of wrong coupling. One of the reasons of their hard situation was the fact when after the II world war Russians massively took this breed out of Georgia because of the dog’s nature: Caucasian shepherd dog easily endures frost, doesn’t claim for living conditions and doesn’t need especial force for training, besides Russians used the dog for experiments to create a new breed.
The goal of the club “Bombora” is to take care of the breed Georgia’s nature proud, to look up pureblooded exemplars, to select couples for right coupling, to multiply and to popularize the breed.
For present only in Batumi works the professional Caucasian dog farm. On the rest territory of Georgia multiplying of the breed is arranged via the club “Bombora”.
In consequence of the club “Bombora’s” years of work the number of the club’s members grew to 1000 persons as in Georgia so out of its borders: Argentina, Canada, France, Germany, Turkey, United Emirates of Arabia, Israel, Georgia (US), Italy, Russia. Besides for the popularization of the breed, for its development and for demonstration of the club’s achievements national and international annual exhibitions of Caucasian shepherd dog are held. This tradition was founded in 2000, January 21
Periodically the club “Bombora” arranges expeditions for the aimS: to learn situation of the Caucasian mount dog in regions and to return the breed to the Georgian nature. The expeditions had already been arranged in the mounts of Kazbegi, in Tusheti and Shiraqi – places were sheep breeding is developed. The situation is different, it needs advantage by professionals but only enthusiasm is not enough.
In those regions where sheep breeding is not developed, people keep the Caucasian shepherd dog as a devoted friend and house guard.
Members of the club “Bombora” are many famous public figures and priesthood. We must mention the interest and support of Georgian priesthood and especially of the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II in this national affair. |
